Sister Ethel Normoyle

Sister Ethel Normoyle was the featured speaker at District 5340's 35th Rotary Foundation Seminar. Hers is a fascinating story of what one caring person can do when she marshals her own efforts and the efforts of others to make a difference in the world. The Missionvale Care Centre operates in the extremely poor informal
shackland township of Missionvale in Port Elizabeth, South Africa -
part of the wider Nelson Mandela Metropole. It was founded by Sister
Ethel Normoyle, from humble beginnings, under a tree donated by a
resident of Missionvale. It has grown into a Centre which provides love
and care for the poor and destitute, with particular emphasis on those
living with HIV/AIDS.
Missionvale Care Centre began 21 years ago and has grown to be an ongoing presence in this otherwise hopeless environment. The mission of this center is to provide food, clothes, medical care and spiritual enrichment to a population that lives in poverty that is severe.
