Visitors from Club Rotario Tijuana Milenio Minarete flanked by member of RB Sunrise Rotary Club at the Funraiser
On Saturday, May 7, RB Sunrise Rotary Club held its fifth annual Funraiser event.  This year, like the last two years, we enjoyed excellent food, catered by former member, Bret Geernaert, who now has a restaurant in Poway.

There were about 90 RB Sunrise Rotarians and friends in attendance.  We also had 4 members of our sister club in Mexico (Club Rotario Tijuana Milenio Minarete) visit for the dinner.  They were very interested to learn just how our Funraiser worked.  The certainly learned a good deal about this fun event and enjoyed it a lot.
After the dinner the drawing began.  The first ticket was a $500 winner and was won by Phil and Shauna Schneider.  Then in the first 50 slots for tickets, fifteen slots were skipped to account for the fact that we didn't sell as many tickets to reach our goal of 180 tickets.  This, of course, made the drawing go much faster.  At the 60th slot, there was a pause to catch up with the record keeping and a few extra tickets were sold.  Another 15 slots were skipped and the excitement started to build. This continued as the tickets were drawn.  Eventually the drawing came down to the last 9 tickets outstanding.  This was a great place to be because the cash prizes are bunched here.

RB Sunrise Rotarian Paul Sullivan Holding up the grand prize winning ticket.
The suspense built until there were two tickets left.  This is the exciting part of the story. In past years, the drawing hasn't gone down to final ticket because the finalists have always made a deal to split the grand prize of $5000.  Paul Sullivan was holding one of the final two and he made the decision not to agree to a split.  It turned out that Paul held the winning ticket!  The story has an even better ending because the owner of the ticket is a colleague of Paul in the YMCA who told Paul that whatever was won would be donated to the club!  The $5000 grand prize comes back to the club to go into our treasury to fund our projects.
