Left to Right –  RB Sunrise Rotarian Joe Giamanco, Abraxas Student of the Month Desiree Wimberly and Abraxas teacher Dave MacLeod
As part of its ongoing partnership with Abraxas High School, the Rancho Bernardo Sunrise Rotary Club announced their Student Of The Month award for October 2010 at this morning’s breakfast meeting. The presentation to Desiree Wimberly was made by teacher Dave MacLeod and Rotarian Joseph Giamanco.

“Desiree has just 18 credits left to go, and has been pulling A's in most of her classes.” reported Mr. MacLeod with obvious pride, adding “Her hard work will pay off soon, and she’s expected to graduate this coming June.”

Given the expanding programs at Abraxas and their success at cutting their dropout rate by fifty percent, it’s quite apparent they’re doing something right over there.

“Going to Abraxas was like starting over for me” said the soft-spoken Ms. Wimberly. “I had issues, but the teachers at Abraxas got me back on track and gave my life a brand new start.”

“I owe my entire success to Abraxas” she smiled.

Desiree was treated as a VIP by the 65 professional members of the RB Sunrise Rotary. She was given a gift certificate and an award in honor of her achievement.
