The Rancho Bernardo Sunrise Rotary Club has elected Nasrin Barbee as club president for the Rotary year beginning July 1. She has been a Poway-based architect since 1989, with a focus on residential, custom homes, remodeling, home additions, and redevelopment of Montessori Schools.

A graduate of UCLA's School of Fine Arts, Barbee is a registered Architect with the State of California with over 25 years of professional experience. Having earned her Masters in Architecture from the UCLA School of Architecture, she is very active in industry and community affairs. She has been a member of the American Institute of Architects since 1984.

Affectionately known by the club's 65 professional members as "Naz", Ms. Barbee is to many the very embodiment of Rotary's multi-gender, multi-national determination to provide service above self. She's been active in Rotary since 1994, has spent the past several years as chair of both the International and Community Service committees, and was awarded Rotary International's Four Ways Of Service award in 2006.

Nasrin Barbee was also widely recognized for her collaboration in 2007-08 with her Daughter Cindy in the Peace Corps, helping to provide sewing machines to a village in Nicaragua. Because of their efforts, the women of this remote village have since started a cooperative and largely moved the members of their community from poverty to self-sufficiency.
