Determined to brighten the holidays of local children in need, Rancho Bernardo Sunrise Rotary members donated over $1,500 in toys to the U.S. Marine Corps annual Toys for Tots fundraiser. Contributions in support of this project came directly from members of the RB Sunrise Rotary Club, and were used to purchase hundreds of toys that were presented to representatives of the U.S. Marine Corps at the club meeting this Tuesday December 14th, 2010.

The mission of Toys for Tots program is to deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them into becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens. Also, it is a great way for members of the community to unite around a common goal, and play an active role in the development of one of the nation’s most valuable resources – its children. Consistent with Rotary objectives of giving back to the local community, this project was a great way for members of the club to help out the less fortunate.

Project Coordinator Sue Herndon, stated “The RB Sunrise Rotarians rose to the need of our community recently by sponsoring the purchase of hundreds of toys for children in our area. Their generosity and spirit of giving was reflected in the number of gifts under the tree at the Ranch Bernardo Country Club.”

Representatives of the U.S. Marine Corp, currently stationed at MCAS Miramar, including Cpl. Mendoza, Cpl. Pool, Cpl. Valez, Cpl. Smith, and Sgt. Nadrchal, were invited to join the club for breakfast and a presentation of the donation. As a thank you on behalf of the Toys for Tots organization, the Rotary Club President was presented with a certificate signifying their appreciation of this generous outpouring of support.
