Our own publicity guru, Rob Weinberg, has been honored for the fourth year in a row by being asked to return as a speaker at the PETS training seminar for new club presidents.
Rotary International has selected Rob Weinberg of Rancho Bernardo Sunrise Rotary to be one of seven instructors at the 2009 annual club President-Elect Training Seminar series (PETS). This year's meeting will be held from February 19- 22 at the Marriott Hotel at the Los Angeles airport, and will host 500 clubs from as far north as San Jose and east to Utah. The bulk of the clubs represented will be from southern California, southern Nevada and western Arizona.

Mr. Weinberg's presentation "Publicity and You -Getting the most recognition from your club's marketing efforts" was greeted at the 2006, 2007 and 2008 PETS seminars with tremendous fanfare. "He was the top rated speaker we had in 2007 and 2008, and the first person we called to have come back for the 2009 PETS program" says Marge Cole, speaker's chair for this year's Rotary International program. To date, Weinberg has trained in excess of 2,000 club officers from around the globe in the intricacies of marketing their service organizations.

Each of the world's 32,000 Rotary clubs inaugurates a new club president every July 1. The PETS program gathers together these incoming presidents on a regional basis to instruct them on a wide range of functions they and their committee chairs will be expected to fulfill. Subjects about which attendees are educated include fundraising, recruitment and community outreach.

Mr. Weinberg is president of the MarketBuilding Team, a full-service marketing communications agency based in San Diego. With over 25 years of professional marketing experience under his belt, he has published two books on marketing and has a weekly marketing advice column that can be found online at www.askmrmarketing.com. As chair of the Rancho Bernardo Sunrise Rotary's Publicity Committee, Weinberg is perfectly positioned to provide the seminar that effectively drives each club's communications efforts for a full year.

Separately, Mr. Weinberg also trains club officers from throughout district 5340 (San Diego/Imperial Counties). He has also been nominated for a "Best Rotary Publicity Efforts Globally' award, which will be awarded later this year.

Since joining Rotary in 2004, Weinberg's efforts have brought a great deal of prominence to the RB Sunrise club's efforts to strengthen the community at-large. During the Rotary year ended June 30, 2008, his efforts were highlighted for generating over 180 stories and mentions in the media. He was previously named the club's Rotarian of the Year.

Groups that have benefited from the RB Sunrise Rotary's largesse include:

Boy and Girl Scouts
Corazon Aid for the Homeless
Family Literacy Foundation
Seven Oaks Community Residents
Poway Unified School District
Rides & Smiles
Kendra Jeffcoat, President of Rancho Bernardo Sunrise Rotary, notes "This is a tremendous honor for Rob and for our club. This man has, single-handedly, put our club onto the map through his publicity efforts. Clearly he is doing something right and has lessons he can teach the other clubs in our region." RB Sunrise president-elect Nasrin Barbee says "All of us at RB Sunrise are very proud of Rob for receiving this honor, and I'm very excited about getting to see this program in person. We all know Rob will continue to be a tremendous asset to the PETS program and the 500 regional rotary clubs that participate." hit counter
