RB Sunrise receives Matching Grant

On Tuesday, Sept 7, 2010, RB Sunrise Rotary received a check for $4000 from DIstrict 5340 Rotary Foundation Mentor Ed Knight. This award is the result of a $4000 donation to Water For Sudan which was District 5340 Matching Grant Project P7. A similar check was also presented to Rancho Santa Fe Rotary Club. The combined total of funds that were raised by both clubs and the 100% match by District 5340 is $16,000. This award is significant in that it was presented during Rotary International's World Water Week Sept 5-11, 2010.

The project description is Country: Sudan, Location: Southern Sudan, Total Budget $16,000. The areas of focus for the project are: peace and conflict prevention/resolution, disease prevention and treatment, water and sanitation, maternal and child health, basic education and literacy, economic and coommunity development. The activity type: Water: Supply/ Access. The project summary: Dig wells in Southern Sudan the "Water for Sudan" organization.

Rotary District Grants were created for the first time this Rotary year as a result of District 5340's participation in the Future Visions Program of The Rotary Foundation. District Grants allow the District to have more local control over the distribution of funds made available from the Foundation for local and international projects.

District 5340 is one of one hundred Rotary districts world-wide participating in this Pilot project The pilotwill be operating for three years after which it is anticipated that all 535 districts will be involved. In total, the District will provide $97,250 towards projects anticipated to cost $305,535.

The ultimate source of all these funds are the Rotary members themselves by way of their contributions to the Annual Program Fund of the Rotary Foundation. RB Sunrise Rotary is proud to annually have 100% participation of members donating to the Rotary Foundation.
