The Rotary Foundation has established the Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund for U.S. Rotarians who want to donate toward recovery efforts after a powerful earthquake rocked Haiti on January 12. Rancho Bernardo Sunrise Rotary club has made a $1,000 donation to the Rotary Foundation's Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund.

"Our hope it to quickly help mitigate the pain caused by this disaster." explained club president Nasrin Barbee, noting the speed with which the donation was made. Rotary International's Emergency Relief Fund will be working with local Rotary clubs and districts, as well as emergency relief agencies, to meet the most pressing needs of people in affected areas.

"Rotarians have a history of moving fast to help those most in need after a disaster like the one just experienced in Haiti." observed Carl Kruse, Foundation Chair for the club. "RB Sunrise Rotary has directly supported relief efforts for Hurricane Katrina and the Southeast Asia tsunami, and found that Rotarians around the world were there for us in our time of need after the devastating fires of 2007. This is who we as Rotarians are – people who live their lives in service above self."

"At a time like this" said Ms. Barbee "It's more important than ever to overlook any differences between peoples. This is a time of need, and we just knew we wanted to help rebuild the lives of families who just lost everything. We encourage everybody in the community to do their part and help the people of Haiti when they most need our help."
