In response to the recent earthquake and tsunami disaster in Japan, the Rancho Bernardo Sunrise Rotary has decided to donate $1000 to help displaced disaster victims. With hundreds of thousands of people estimated to be displaced as a result of this recent disaster, the club felt compelled to make a contribution to help those in need. The Japanese government had reached out to ShelterBox to provide emergency shelter and supplies for those who lost their homes in the tsunami. The RB Sunrise Rotary is proud to be able to contribute to this effort and help those in need.

ShelterBox is a premier international aid organization that provides shelter and life saving equipment to victims of natural disasters and conflicts worldwide. Each box supplies an extended family of up to 10 people with a tent and lifesaving equipment to use while they are displaced or homeless. Boxes are even tailored based on the location and type of disaster to ensure their contents provide the maximum value to recipients. Support from Rotary Clubs around the globe currently contributes an estimated 50% of ShelterBox donations.

What's Inside the box?

Every donation of £590 (approx $945 US) will allow ShelterBox to deliver emergency shelter and other lifesaving equipment to a family who have lost everything following a disaster.

Only new equipment is used and is carefully selected for durability, practicality and suitability for where it is needed. Tough, lightweight and waterproof, the box itself can also have many useful functions from food container to cot. We also continually work with a range of manufacturers to improve the quality and extend the range of equipment that we have available.

A range of equipment is kept in stock. This lets us adjust the contents of the box according to local conditions and what is most urgently needed. Sometimes particularly if other resources are available locally and the overwhelming need is for shelter we will just send tents and pack two in each box.
