Jerry Coleman, long time voice of the San Diego Padres baseball team, was the guest speaker at the July 21st meeting of RB Sunrise Rotary.  Jerry Coleman has been a major league baseball player, a decorated Marine combat pilot in WWII and Korea, and a baseball announcer.  Jerry is in the Radio Hall of Fame and the Baseball Hall of Fame as an announcer.

Jerry spoke about the current situation with the Padres baseball club and also about the sport itself.  He commented that currently because the Padres are not doing very well, he doesn't know the team very well because so many of them are new, young players. He acknowledge that it is difficult to be in the booth announcing the game because unlike the fans, he can't go home early!

He decried the effect that the use of steroids has had on the game. He suggested that the records held by anyone who has been identified as having used steroids to enhance their performance be in a separate place that is identified as having been influence illegally.

Jerry answered questions about the great baseball players he has known in the past. They included  players such as Micky Mantle, Joe Dimaggio, and Ted Williams.
