The Board of Directors for Club Rotario Tijuana Milenio Minarete for 2011-2012

On Saturday, July 9, 2011, our sister club, Club Rotario Tijuana Milenio Minarete,  installed officers and directors for Rotary year 2011--2012.  Their change of officers and celebration party was held at the Sunset Lounge in Tijuana Playa.

RB Sunrise Rotarians Paul Gorman, Rex Teets, and Jim Dunny attended.  Paul and Rex had met with their International Chair and others to plan how to get a district grant for one of the charities they support, The Pediatric Onclology Center.

The evening began much like it would in San Diego.  There was a social time starting at 6 pm with drinks and fellowship beforehand. The intrepid visitors from San Diego soon learned that things run differently in another country. The meeting finally got underway after 8 pm.  The presentations, awards, introductons of the past and new board of directors and the remarks of the outgoing president (Marco Beccera),  new president (Heather Johnson) and the District Governor of District 4100 took until past 10 pm.

From our perspective, what happened next was interesting.  In groups of 3 - 4 we went outsite after being given cloth "balloons" that were in fact minature hot air  ballloons made of light fabric.  The bottom of these ballons were held open with a light wire ring and there was a crosswise "x" to which you had to attach a rectangle of fuel soaked material.  By holding the balloon with the opening at the bottom and lighting the fuel, hot air was collected in the white balloon.  When the balloon was sufficiently filled it was released to drift eastward on the onshore breeze.  It was interesting to follow "your" balloon as it rose into the night sky and then finally disappeared into the night sky.

After returning inside the lounge, it was time for food.  While the food was brought, the dancing began.  This is a new generation club whose members have developed close friendships  and enjoy each others company. They proceeded to have a great time dancind visiting with one another..

The 3 of us from Rancho Bernardo left the party around 11:30 pm  Heather's father drove us to the border.  We crossed back into the United States around 11:45 pm.and arrived home well after midnight.

Everyone had a great time at this party. it was great to share in the celebration of a club in Mexico. They, like us, are dedicated to "Service Above Self" and will truly  "Reach Within to Embrace Humanity" this year.
