"Service Above Self" in our vocations, in our club, in our community, and in our world.

Every one individual is "taking charge" because together, we are one unit, one fearless animalistic pack, one giant collaborative Being bringing meaning to life every single day.

Rancho Bernardo Sunrise Rotary joins a distinguished group of Rotary clubs and volunteers in a growing movement supporting the efforts of Water For Sudan ("WFS"), a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization. Included in a committee are volunteers and members of Torrey Pines Interact, Del Mar, Encinitas Coastal, Rancho Santa Fe, San Diego Club #33, La Jolla Sunrise, Fallbrook, and Rancho Bernardo Sunrise Rotary Clubs.

Sudan faced a recent civil war since 1985. This year will determine the outcome of a six-year Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) to divide the North and South, hopefully ending the controversy that divides the Sudanese people.

WFS is lead by Salva Dut, a "Lost Boy" who became a hero leading 1,500 boys from Ethiopia to a UN-controlled Kakuma refugee camp near the Kenyan city of Lodawar. After six years behind a barbwire-enclosed camp, he was determined to save the people of Sudan from the hardships related to unsafe water. With the loss of friends, family members, and many acquaintances, he found the need for safe water in much neglected, Southern Sudan.

Every 15 seconds a person dies in the world from water related illness [World FactBook]. In the time it took to read this, 4 people have died, most likely a child under the age of five. Sudan, one of the poorest countries in the world, has one of the highest mortality rates among children under five and infants.

Through efforts with Water For Sudan, lives are saved, women and children are given the opportunity to go to school rather than carry 50 pounds of water on their head for miles, and the creation of markets now help build and shape economic exchanges and peace between villages. It takes on average $4.50 ($13,500 per well = 3,000 lives) to save one life from water related illness, disease, or death. Let us work together and join resources to change the world for the children of the future.
