Rancho Bernardo Sunrise Rotary on Tuesday, January 27 announced that Rex Teets was awarded the first Garth Miller Humanitarian Award.  The photo shows Rex with Garth Miller's widow, Marva and Club President, Dr. Kendra Jeffcoat.
Rex Teets,  a long time member and a past president of RB Sunrise Rotary, was selected by the board of directors for this award because of his selfless efforts on behalf of the students at Abraxas High School.  Rex has been the liaison for the club for many years.  He spearheads the annual Four Way Speech Contest for Abraxas and also coordinates the monthly recognition of a deserving student at Abraxas to be selected as the Student of the Month.  Rex has aslo been a facilitator numerous times at the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards weekend training retreat held at Idylwild, California. Rex personifies the Rotary Motto: Service Above Self.

The Garth Miller Humanitarian Award was established to honor members of RB Sunrise who continue the tradition of humanitarian service that was begun by the late Garth Miller.  Garth was a charter member of RB Sunrise Rotary Club and was its treasurer for thirteen years. Garth was active, not only in supporting the projects of RB Sunrise Rotary, but also as a volunteer with Rides and Smiles and as a member and elder at Rancho Bernardo Community Presbyterian Church.
