2010 is rolling along and we are daily meeting the challenge of caring for abandoned children here in Johannesburg.  We have learned so much over the last year in regards to rescuing children effectively, meeting their needs the right way, and planning for their best interest long-term. Learn how RBS teamed up with Oasis Haven to offer security and safety---

With your help, our Bou Street Family Home is now safe and sound with the protection of a new boundary wall.  All of the children are attending the local King's School and are growing by leaps and bounds.  The teachers are sending exceptional reports home of children we never thought would cope in a main stream school.  From behavior problems, developmental delay, and the legacy of abandonment, our children seem to be breezing past any limitations previously placed on their lives.  It is an absolute wonder to watch!

We have received a report back from the three children who were adopted from us in December.  They are absolutely in love with their new family…and completely adored in response.  Recent photos showed them learning to use the BBQ with their new father, and having a fun movie night with their new sisters.  Updates like this remind us so clearly of what our daily work is really all about.

Recently, one of our managers sent us the following story:

Sibongile turned 7 this week.  Having been abandoned as a baby, she spent her first 2 years at Oasis Haven.  This I now her fifth birthday party with her adoptive family, and it was a BIG one.  Surrounded by friends, family, and even "Hannah Montana", Sibongile started her 7th year with a grand celebration.  Amidst the presents, the plans, and the party hype, this precious little girl looked at her mom and said, "I have a lot of people who love me…but I'm lucky that I have a Mommy."

Happy birthday Sibongile, and thank you for reminding us that a forever family is the best gift we can ever give a child.

And many thanks to each of you, for your continued support and compassion towards the precious children entrusted to our care.

For the kids,

Beth Gillig
