On Nov 14, 2009, 16 members of RB Sunrise Rotary Club were part of a large group of volunteers that built a house in Tijuana, Mexico.  This year's participation was the seventh time, and the fifth time as the primary sponsor.
This event is an ongoing project of Corazon, a charity that helps families volunteer in their communities to earn scholarships for their children to attend school and to earn the house that is built for them.

This year's house was completed more quickly than ever before.  In the past, the work was completed by 4 pm.  This year the work was completed by 2 pm.  The major reason for the speed of this year's project was the fact that RB Sunrise Rotarian Jay Riordan, who is a contractor, not only participated, but several members of his home construction crew participated as well.

The family that received the new house is a man and his wife and three children.  The father works in a factory making less than $6 a day.  School tuition for the children is over $1000 a year on an income of less than $1500 a year.  This family's partnership with Corazon allows the father and the 15-year-old son to earn volunteer credits that helps the children stay in school with scholarships. The new house puts a decent roof over their heads.

The club also provided rice, beans and canned goods for several months of basic food needs.  RB Sunrise Rotary Treasurer Paul Sullivan and his wife also provided blankets for each of the children.

RB Sunrise Rotary Club has a core of members who participate each year and each describe it as a life changing experience. hits counter
