Rotary's February Milestones

Rotaract Celebrates Fifty Years.

Rotaract originally began as a Rotary International youth program in 1968 at Charlotte North Rotary Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, United States, and has grown into a major Rotary-sponsored organization of over 9,522 clubs spread around the world and 291,006 members.[3] It is a service, leadership, professional and community service organization (often miscommunicated as a Social Service Club) for young men and women between the ages 18–30 (membership will end upon reaching 31 years of age).

Rotaract focuses on the development of young adults as leaders in their communities and workplaces. Clubs around the world also take part in international service projects, in a global effort to bring peace and international understanding to the world.

"Rotaract" stands for "Rotary in Action", although the name originally comes from a combination of "Rotary" and "Interact" (International + Action), the high school level program created by Rotary International in 1962. (source-Wikipedia)

Rotary International Celebrates 113 Years

On  February 23, 1905, Paul Harris, an attorney in Chicago, IL, invited 3 business acquaintances to a meeting.  From that meeting, the organization that became Rotary International was launched. Wikipedia has an excellent brief history and overview of Rotary International that can be viewed here.

RB Sunrise Grant Requests

Recently I have been asked to find the link to the RB Sunrise Grant Request Form (template).  Because of where it was located, It was not easy to find.  I have made it much easier to not only get the form, but also get information about grant requests.

A link to the downloadable file is now located in two places.  An information page that includes instruction for completing the grant request form is now the first link located in the Rotary Links section on the left side of the home page. The other link is located in the page that is accessed by clicking on Contact Us in the right side of the menu bar on the Home page of our website.

Invitation from Carlton  -  He wants to hear from you!

RB Sunrise special member Carlton requests the honor of your company during his Rotary Social Hour at the abode of Mary Jane and Carl Kruse.  This incredibly unique and enjoyable Rotarian fellowship event will be on Thursday, March 1.  Festivities will begin promptly at 5:27pm and end around 7:11pm.  Yes, Carlton will accept bear-hugs.

Bring a guest, bring a friend, bring a foe, just bring someone!  Due to Carlton’s limited income as a “Butler-Private Caterer” (his official Rotary classification) he requests that you bring your favorite evening libation for yourself and a scrumptious hors d'oeuvre to share with others.  Carlton also requests that you RSVP to RB Sunriser Mary Stanton so he knows how many will be attending.

Mexico House Build Coming Up

Great News! Project P-1889 has been fully pledged and the April 21, 2018 house build #2 is a GO! The Del Mar Rotary club contributed towards this project and will be participating in the house build along with our club. From what my contact at the Del Mar club has told me is that they have a pretty good amount of interested members who want to participate.

I have again reserved Jim Hughes' 15 passenger van from our district 5340, for the house build. The pick-up point on Saturday is at the Park n Ride off the 15 at Scripps Poway Parkway at 5:45 - 6:00am.  Please check your inbox for the recent email with all of the details of this event.

2018 District 5340 Training Assembly

Rotary provides for training at every level of leadership.  We recently had the RI Assembly  here in San Diego that provided training to DGE's from around the world.  President-elects are required to attend PETS (President Elect Training Seminars prior to their year as president. Likewise Rotary Districts provide District Training Assemblies for club officers and committee chairs.

This year's District 5340 Training Assembly will be held at the Joan Kroc Center on the USD campus on Saturday morning, March 24.  This seminar will be followed immediately by the Global Grants training seminar.  Every club has to have at least 2 persons attend the global grants seminar in order to be eligible to participate in obtaining and administering district and global grants.
