RB Sunrise Rotarians share at 2018 District Training Assembly.

Snoopy from Knotts Berry Farm with DGE Mel Gallegos.
On Saturday, March 24, 2018, District 5340 held its 2018 Training Assembly at the Joan Kroc Center at the University of San Diego.  The morning began with a welcome that included remarks by District Governor Scott Carr and announcements of upcoming District 5340 events.  The first of these is the Rockin' Rotary Social on Thursday, April 5.  There was a video promoting the 2018 District Convention that will be held this year at Knott's Berry Farm on May 4-5.  For information on these and other upcoming events that include RYLA and Rotary Nights at the Padres, go to Rotary District 5340.

At the completion of the opening session, there were 3 breakout sessions, each having 8 training classes. RB Sunrise Rotarians were featured in 2 of the sessions in the second session and one in the third session.

Jim RothRob Weinberg and Hat
Jim Roth and Rob Weinberg were presenters in Session 2.  Jim Roth spoke about how to do Community Service. During his presentation, he spoke about the beginnings of Rotarian at Work. He also spoke about the details of planning a club community project including some legal requirements.

Rob Weinberg presented about Public Image and Branding.  Our "Hatman" spoke about the need for marketing the things that make a club unique and how to establish a "brand".   He related how we are using our website to show the diversity of our members.  He also related the Mike Miller Story in which our club showed that we were a "family"  in the way we responded to those members who lost their homes in the 2007 Witch Creek Wildfire.  He stressed that in order to make Rotary attractive for recruiting new members, we have to show how Rotary impacts people here in San Diego.  Rotary becomes attractive when we show how Rotary makes a difference not only for people in our community, but also for enriching the lives of our members through service.

Trudy ArmstrongGordy Erickson
In the third session, Trudy Armstrong and Gordy Erickson teamed up to present about Club Fundraising.  Trudy spoke first about how to decide how to select a fundraising event and how to be sure that everyone in the club is involved so that the effort will be successful.  Gordy then gave a case history about our Rancho BEERnardo fundraising.  He outlined how we selected this event, how we plan the event and get our club involved. He stressed that we need the help of people in the community such as our beneficiaries in addition to our members and their families in order to do the event. He spoke about how we are marketing and branding our event as a successful and fun event.  He stressed that once the event has occurred and is successful, the success can be leveraged to grow the event each year.

Mexico House Build Coming Up

Great News! Project P-1889 has been fully pledged and the April 21, 2018 house build #2 is a GO! The Del Mar Rotary club contributed towards this project and will be participating in the house build along with our club. From what my contact at the Del Mar club has told me is that they have a pretty good amount of interested members who want to participate.

I have again reserved Jim Hughes' 15 passenger van from our district 5340, for the house build. The pick-up point on Saturday is at the Park n Ride off the 15 at Scripps Poway Parkway at 5:45 - 6:00am.  Please check your inbox for the recent email with all of the details of this event.
