RB Sunrise Rotary donates help cleft palate patients

L-r: Community Service Director Nasrin Barbee, Kim Muslusky and RB Sunrise Rotary President Alison Farrin with symbolic check

At their regular meeting on May 17, RB Sunrise Rotary donated $1000 to the Thousand Smiles Foundation. The funds will be used to help fund the quarterly week end trips to their clinic in Ensenada, Mexico.

The Thousand Smiles Foundation (“the Foundation”) provides free medical treatment to patients with maxillofacial deformities who, without the help of physicians, dentists, and other medical and nonmedical volunteers, would go untreated.  The Foundation promotes bilateral interchange between Rotarians and medical professionals from the United States and the countries in which it works.

Kim Muslusky, RB Sunrise Rotarian and Thousand Smiles volunteer, spoke about how patients come from all over Mexico to receive health care related to clef palates, and other facial deformities, at the Thousand Smiles Screening Clinic and General Hospital in Ensenada, Mexico. Dental patientss are also treated at this clinic.

RB Sunrise Rotary Foundation News

Our Rotary Foundation Chair, Jeanne MacLaren is pleased to announce that Klinton Leblang will be assisting her.  Klinton is an estate planning attorney and can help those members who need to know how to structure their estate plan to include bequests to the Rotary Foundation.  The great thing about estate giving to the Rotary Foundation is that the donation occurs after your demise so that you can feel good about it now, but the money will not go to the foundation now.

Membership News

At the board of directors meeting on Thursday, May 19, President Alison announced that member Kathy Weyer will be leaving Rancho Bernardo with her husband, who recently retired.  They will be moving to Palm Desert, CA.

End of the Rotary year roster update

Now is the time to check your contact and other information on the club website.  Please verify that all of the information on all of the pages of your profile are correct.  Because of the growth in membership in our club, please take a few minutes to write a short summary for your biography.  With the number of members we have now, it is difficult to schedule the Who am I's.  As a result, the next best thing is for all of us to write a short biography so that our new (and old) members can get to know us.

The end of the Rotary year is June 30.  Rotary International uses our club database information to figure out the billing for our dues invoice that is generated in mid-July.  Since our club roster is integrated with the RI membership database, any changes or corrections you make in our club records will automatically be made on the RI database as well as the District 5340 membership directory.  Please also fill in missing information such as sponsor or missing birthday or anniversary information.

Thank you,

RI Convention in Seoul, Korea

President Elect Craig Brown will be leaving this week to attend the Rotary International Convention in Seoul, Korea.  Each year, RB Sunrise Rotary sends our president elect to the RI Convention.  Our president elect is our delegate for business meetings.  While he is there, he will be attending numerous breakout sessions to learn the latest information on ways we can use to keep our club be the active and fun club we have always been.  Our next year will be one in which we will have to have some conversations about decisions about the ways we can structure our club to grow. We will need input from every club members during this process.
