You’ve heard of the Ice Bucket Challenge?  RB Sunrise Rotarian, Mark Berdan, took the Sand Bucket Challenge to benefit ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). The Sand Bucket Challenge was done during the RB Sunrise regular meeting on March 24, 2015.  This fun event was, as you can see, done in our meeting room, so sand was the alternative to ice and water.

Five Contestants with The Rotary Four Way Test Banner
On Tuesday, March 24, 5 young women from high schools in North County San Diego, came to the regular morning meeting of RB Sunrise Rotary Club to vie in one of the District 5340 Sub Regional Four - Way Speech contests.  As he has done for many years, past president and honorary member, Rex Teets was the moderator.   All five of these students gave excellent speeches.  While the results were being decided by the judges, RB Sunrise Rotary President Karen Mortimer remarked that " I am glad that I don't have to be the one to pick a winner!"

The winner will move on to the Regional Final at the Rotary Club of San Diego.  The 3 finalists at that contest will compete at the Rotary Four Way Test Contest at the District Council meeting on April 28 at the California Center for the Performing Arts in Escondido.

Ask almost anyone at the United Nations and they will know that Rotary, having helped to spearhead the , has contributed to the 99 percent worldwide reduction in polio cases since the initiative began.

That recognition is no accident. For the last three decades, a network of Rotary representatives has been strengthening ties with the United Nations, its specialized agencies, and other international organizations like the League of Arab States and the European Union. These connections have enhanced Rotary's global visibility and resource network.
