Stories

Rancho BEERnardo 2015 was great fun!

Saturday, Oct 10, 2015 began when Mike Moffat arrived at the Sikes Adobe Farmstead before 7:00 am and discovered that the company delivering the portapottys were already there.  He was able to intercept them otherwise the portapotties would have been outside the entry gate!  During the next several hours RB Sunrise Rotarians gathered to set up this event. This meant setting up the easy-up shade tents and then setting up the tables, chairs and getting signs in place. By 11:00 pm, the beer vendors were arriving and the food tables were ready for use.

People started arriving shortly after 1:00 pm.  By the official start time of 2:00 pm quite a few people had arrived and the beer tables were ready.  During the afternoon,  the band did a great job in entertaining the crowd.  At about 3:30 pm County Supervisor Dave Roberts, whose office was instrumental in helping our club get a county grant for our even, took the microphone and praised our club and Rotary for all the great things we do in the community.  He then presented Gordy Erickson, our event chairman, with a proclamatin honoring our club.

Despite the extreme heat that probably kept attendance lower than expected, all attendees had a great time!  The band kept playing well after the official closing time.  If the fact that so many people were still around at the close of our event is a clue, our event was a success.  Many of those who came stated that they had attended Rancho BEERnardo last year.

In true Rotary fashion, club members pitched in and worked hard to take down all of the shade tents, tables and chairs.  By 6:30 pm the area was cleaned up and the rented tables and chairs were being loaded onto the rental company's truck.  By 7:00 pm the Sikes Adobe Farmstead was secured for the night.

The committee will need to have some time to gather all of the information about the final amount of funds this year's event raised.  This information will be published when it becomes available.

We can be proud of this year's event.  Club members worked hard to get the site ready, be available during the event and then work hard to break down the site.  This was a great event despite the heat.  The extra shade this year made the heat bearable and no one seemed to mind.

Important Information

No Club Meeting on Tuesday Oct 13, 2015.  This is the time of year that the Country Club of Rancho Bernardo closes their facility for 2 weeks for annual maintenance.  The country club is not open, so the club has to go dark.  For our Oct 20 meeting, we will have our "rotational meetings" instead.  A list will be published this week that has the locations of these meetings and who is signed up for each location.

For those who worked so hard on Saturday, Oct 10 at the Sikes Adobe Farmstead for our Rancho BEERnardo, Tuesday will allow for some well earned rest.

Rancho BEERnardo Pictures

If you took pictures at Saturday's Rancho Beernardo event,  your photos are needed for the photo album on our website. Please forward them in unedited format, i.e. high resolution. Many more photos are needed to fully document this year's fun event.

Upcoming Club Project

RB Sunrise Rotary will be funding a house building project on November 7.  Now is the time to get prepared for this club project.  This event will start in the early morning.  Participants (club members and familiy members) will be spending the entire day in Tijuana.  Club members are reminded that a passport is necessary to re-enter the United States at the border crossing.  In past house build projects, participants have remarked about how rewarding this experience was for them.
