If you were following the news about the Pasqual file last week you might have noticed that one of the streets listed for evacuation was Via Cuesta. That is the street where Alison Farrin lives in Ramona. Her home is over the hill from the south eastern side of the San Pasqual valley. That was the direction the fire was moving.
I was able to text Alison and I learned that she did not evacuate. In fact, her horse trailer was at her daughter's home. What was annoying to her was the fact that she was not able to leave her home because if she did, she would not have been able to return. Thankfully, the firefighters were able to stop the forward progress of the fire so that it turned out that she wasn't in danger.
We won't be seeing Alison at our meeting tomorrow because she left yesterday for a previously planned trip to South Carolina. I am sure that she is grateful to know that she won't have to be concerned for her home and horses while she is away.
About last week's meeting.
At the July 24th meeting, President Mike encountered the first instance of a scheduled speaker who failed to show. President Mike was prepared for this. He shared a YouTube video that explained immigration and poverty in the world by using gumballs. It was a nonpolitical presentation that was very informative and made clear the enormity of the problem. To view this video go to: Immigration Explained Using Gumballs.
Membership Update
On Friday, July 24, Greg Lund submitted a letter of resignation. Greg was on an extended leave of absence and was scheduled to return. At the time he was granted his LOA, he indicated that he was going to retire. However, his retirement plans have been delayed and so he still has an ongoing work meeting on Tuesday mornings that is at the same time as our club meeting. He regretfully decided to resign at this time rather than continue on an extended leave. He indicated that at such time as he actually does retire, he is interested in rejoining the club because he enjoyed being a member. As is the case with any member who decides to resign because of job conflicts, Greg was informed that he and his wife, Kathy, would be welcome at club socials. He was further encouraged to subscribe to our club newsletter (Because of EU privacy rules, persons who want to receive our newsletter have to subscribe.)
