The assignment for the Who Am I includes providing the positive thought at the beginning of the meeting and introducing guests and visiting Rotarians during the meeting.

On Saturday, December 13, 2014 RB Sunrise Rotary partnered for the fifth time in helping the PTA at Valley Elementary School hold their Gift and Craft Fair. This year 24 members of RB Sunrise Rotary Club and several family members together with 3 members of Club Rotario Tijuana Milennio Minarete and a former member combined with PTA members and high school volunteers to assist in this annual event. Other organizations and businesses who participated were Hewlet Packard, Sprouts, Starbucks and the Poway Parks and Recreation Department.
According to Heather (event Coordinator at school), based on the ticket counts, at least 250 kids plus their parents/families attended the event. The parents commented that this was their families favorite event of the year!
We had purchased about 350 gift items, which were mostly gone. Some of the left over items were donated to local senior citizens in need (items such as scarves and a few mittens). A few other remaining mittens and coffee mugs were donated to Tijuana club for their seniors in need in Tijuana. The left over (3) one gallon milk containers went to teacher's lounge!
As a result, not only we had a great event, but a few other organizations benefited from it as well !
The history of this event goes back to when Al Watson was president in 2010-2011. One of his goals was to have a holiday hands on project for children. Sue Herndon's daughter had been a teacher at Valley Elementary School and Sue had learned from her about the craft fair. Sue contacted the PTA and together with Mark Berdan, RB Sunrise provided breakfast and gifts for around 150 children. This first event in 2010 started what has become an annual event. Our sister club in Tijuana has participated with us from the beginning. They enjoy being able to come to Poway to participate in what for them is an international project.
Rotary International is now using a different billing method. In the past, club secretaries could submit changes to the club invoice when the Semi Annual Report invoice arrived in the mail at the end of December and reflected club membership data through the end of November. The new system will begin with an electronic billing statement that will arrive in January and will include membership information as of December 31. Under the new system, adjustments can no longer be made to the billing statement. This includes contact and other information that used to accompany the billing statement.
It is, therefore, very important that our club roster information be correct. That means that every member needs to review all of their contact information on the club website to make sure that it is up to date. Please supply any missing information including birthdates and sponsors. Incoming presidents are required to present demographic information about the club and this is the major reason that birthdates are needed.
Your Attendance
Everyone is reminded that Rotary International Bylaws and our own club bylaws mandate 50 percent attendance at meeting. Check your attendance to see if the information is correct. Please turn in make up information to the treasurer at a meeting or email the information to: jdunny1@me.com in order to get credit for your makeup. Please include date of makeup, the club visited and the date of the missed meeting.
Remember that you can do meeting makeups in several ways:
1. You can attend a club board of directors meeting (the next meeting is this Thursdat, Dec 18 at 6 pm at Karen Mortimer's home.)
2. You can attend a club social or other club event.
3. You can attend a meeting of another club - you can find out when and where other nearby clubs meet by logging on the the district website at: www.rotary5340.org. (Since the district website is also a ClubRunner website, you will be able to use the same login information you use for our club website.)
4. You can attend a district meeting such as district council.
5. You can attend a virtual meeting at an eclub by visiting the website of any of the following virtual clubs:
During the week of January 18-24, 2015, all district governor elects from around the world will be in San Diego for training at the International Assembly. During that week a hospitality event in which clubs in our district host visiting district governor elects at a social event.
Rancho Bernardo Sunrise Rotary is pleased to be one of the Host Clubs in District 5340 for the Host Hospitality Event on January 21. Peter Meisen has most graciously opened the GENI office at 1088 3rd Ave, San Diego (center of downtown) where we can share GENI's mission a well as that of our club with 10 DG's from around the world. Those who attended last year pretty much agreed it was one of those Rotary Highlight moments!
This is a fun event at which we meet these 10 visitors and their spouses. Because of the capabilites of the GENI office, we also can see what is happening in these other district from diverse locations around the world and hear first hand about what Rotary is doing in those districts. This is a great social event for you and your spouse. Be sure to sign up for this fun event so that you can be a part of this international hosting event.
