The member assigned to Who Am I is also responsible for providing the positive thought at the beginning of the meeting and introducing visiting Rotarians and guests.
The member assigned to Rotary Minute is the assigned Greeter for that day and also is tasked with selling opportunity drawing tickets.
At a breakout session at the district conference at Newport Beach, the recent enactments of the Rotary International Council on Legislation were presented and explained by Brad Howard, the RI trustee from our Zone. He related to us that the changes enacted gives more flexibility to clubs.
The changes that will take effect on July 1, 2016 are designed to give greater autonomy to clubs to hold meetings and structure their clubs to fit the realities of the needs of club members in each club. The changes are not mandatory and clubs have the option to adopt only those parts that membership embrace. You will want to participate in the discussions about how our club can take advantage of the flexibility permitted by the enactments.
The types of changes will make necessary important discussions in our club. The changes will also make necessary changes to our club bylaws for any changes our club elects to implement. Since the rationale behind the sweeping changes for clubs need to be discussed, I will not attempt to do so here. For many years, RB Sunrise Rotary Club has supported Abraxas High School with Scholarships, awards, and educational supplies.
Part of this support is to recognize a Student of the Month for every month of the school year.
The May 2016 Student of the Month Award was presented to Alyssia Black at the May 10 breakfast meeting. The presentation was made by Abraxas High School teacher, Alton Brooks and RB Sunrise Rotarian, Jeanne MacLaren.
As a reward for studying hard and doing well academically, Alyssia received a gift certificate and a Scholastic Achievement Award. She will be graduating from Abraxas High School this year.
New Blue Badge Member Paul Pintek with Pres. Alison Farrin
At the May 10, 2016 meeting of RB Sunrise Rotary, President Alison Farrin presented Paul Pintek, a new member and recent inductee, with a Member Plaque and Blue Badge. This presentation marked the completion of all of his required new member tasks.
As a new Rotarian, Paul wore a red identification badge, but graduated to the Blue Badge in a very short period of time. Alison noted that for some new members, it can take a year to accomplish what Paul did in just a few months. Congratulations Paul!

On Thursday, May 12, 2016, RB Sunrise Rotary women held a Ladies Night Out at the Barrel Room in Rancho Bernardo. We all took some time out of our busy lives to relax and enjoy ourselves. It was a perfect summer evening. We enjoyed sitting outside on the patio, taking in the fresh air and secluded ambiance.
There was lots of wine and conversation, great food. It was great to get to know new members as well as touching base with each other. As you can see from the picture above, there were not only Rotary members present, but also Laurel Roth, Mary Jane Kruse and Tammy Stewart, wives of Jim Roth, Carl Kruse and Jim Stewart respectively. The camaraderie between the ladies was infectious and we all had a wonderful time.
