Jonathan Gaspar Joins RB Sunrise Rotary

Past RB Sunrise President and PDG Carl Kruse, new member Jonathan Gaspar, Anna Gaspar, and mentor Rob Weinberg

On the regular meeting on Valentines Day, February 14, Jonathan Gaspar, a realtor, was inducted as or newest member.

Joining our Rotary family with him was his wife, Anna.  Jonathan was previously a member of a Rotary Club in Kyle, TX.  Jonathan says that he is joining our club because he is looking forward to participating with us in our service projects.  We welcome Jonathan as our newest member.

Drake Dabney was honored as the Abraxas stuedent of the month for February at our meeting on February 14, 2017.. Drake holds down 2 jobs and is working on an internship.  Because he is such a good worker, the employer in the company for his internship has offered Drake a permanent position!

According to his teachers, Drack is an amazing student.  He is always one of the first to volunteer!  He was accompanied at our meeting by his homeroom teacher and his proud parents.

Karen Mortimer Awarded Another Paul Harris Recognition

Karen Mortimer holding PHF +5 pin and Klinton LeBlang, Foundation co-chair for Planned Giving
Karen Mortimer was awarded the Paul Harris Society Recognition Pin for donating an additional $1000 to the Rotary International Foundation.  Karen now is a Paul Harris Society member +5.   It is the dedication of members like Karen who regularly donate to the Rotary Foundation that lets Rotary be the force for good in the world.

The Rotary Foundation is recognized in the world for the integrity of its operations and the minimal amount of donated funds that are used for administration.  Beside its signature polio eradication effort, the Rotary Foundation also funds for sustainable projects for maternal health, clean water and sanitation, peace and conflict resolution, and micro credit. It is the ongoing commitment of donors like Karen that permits the Rotary Foundation to continue all of its programs.  Rotary is also recognized for its  efforts in disaster relief.  Because Rotary clubs exist in all of the world, Rotary is a first responder in disaster relief and because of its members, maintains a presence in disaster stricken areas long after other first response organizations have moved on.

SunRiser Publication Interruption

The SunRiser will not be published next week and possibly not for the first week of March.  Your SunRiser editor will be on vacation until March 3.   Our club needs to have more than one newsletter editor so that there is a backup for times like this.  Susan Marsh is also having to take time off from contributing stories to the SunRiser because this is tax season and she is a CPA with tax clients in addition to being our club treasurer.

Membership Update

Last week we inducted  Jonathan Gaspar as a member.  Jonathan is not new to Rotary.  He was a member of the Rotary Club in Kyle, Tesas.

I am sad to announce that Andy Patapow resigned as a member.  He and his wife are planning to travel at least for the next year.  Although he was eligible for Rule of 85 membership, he elected to just resign.  Because he was a long time member we are saddened at his decision.

With these two membership changes, our current membership remains at 63 active members (including Rule of 85 members) and 6 Honorary members.
