An article in the March 13 issue of the NY Times showcases the fact that for many retirees, being retireed is not satifying.  Often these retirees were vey busy in their own businesses and are usde to being productive.  Once they retire, the find that they are bored because they don't have anything to do.  These retirees are turning to membership in a Rotary Club as a way to once again be productive by volunteering in to serve in local and international projects.  Now, instead of being bored at home they are finding very satisfying service opportunities.  As a retiree, they have the time and the means to travel.  By paticipating in the service projects of their Rotary Club or district, they get the joy of working with other people in the projects that Rotary does around the world.

The article outlines how many of those in the wave of new retirees are finding new ways through Rotary of being relevant again in retirement .  The second part of the article also tells how some retirees are working for the Peaced Corps as well and spending longer periods of time in foreign countries.

RB Sunrise Rotary Board of Directors Meeting

The stated monthly board meeting will be held this Thursday, March 19 at 6:00 pm at the home of President Karen Mortimeter.  All members of the club are always welcome to attend board meetings. Red badgers are especially encouraged to atend because attending a board meeting is a way to earn points to earn the blue club badge.

Ongoing Reminder

Saturday, April 25 is Rotarians at Work day in the Rotary World.  Rotarians at Work is a project that began right here in District 5340 and RB Sunrise has participated since its inception.  The project started with our district at the Tijuana, Mexico and has since been adopted by Rotary International.  That means that on April 25, Rotary clubs in districts around the world will all be dong community service projects.  Publicity about each club's project and the impact of the projects is a great way for the public to learn about Rotary.

Help Wanted

Y
our newsletter editor will be on vacation from April 15 through and including April 29, 2015.  During that time I will not have internet access most of the time (after all, it is a vacation !).   For that reason, I need someone to take up the slack to at least do email notifications via the email center on our ClubRunner website so that you will contnue to be informed about such thiings as the program for the week and the meeting assignments.  Anyone interested in helping can contact me to "learn the ropes".   This isn't all that difficult a task.  It just takes a little time.  Thank you in advance for at least considering helping the club.

Last Call for Participation

If you are going to be a board member and haven't been to a district training assembly, this is the event for you.

On Saturday, March 22, District 5340 will hold its annual training assembly.  This assembly is provided by the district to train incoming club officers for the 2014 - 2015 Rotary year.  As has been the case in recent years, the assembly will be held at the Joan Kroc Center for Peace and Justice at San Diego University.

On the afternoon of Saturday, March 22, District 5340 will provide a Grants Managemnt Seminar.  Every club in the district that is planning to have a matching Rotary Foundation grant in 2014 - 2014 must have a minimum of 3 members attend this seminar.  This is not a district requirement, it is a Rotary International requirement.

RB Sunrise Rotary will pay the registration cost for these seminars for those club members who attend. There is a box lunch available for those persons who will be attending both events.  To sign up, go to: District 5340 website and click on the links in the story on the home page.
