Turnover Joint Board of Directors Meeting
On Thursday, June 19, Jim and Tammy Stewart hosted the turnover board meeting at their home in Poway. Incoming club president, Karen Mortimer and Jim and Tammy joined to provide food and beverages for this dinner event.
One of the major decisions that were made was to close the Scholarship Fund with the San Diego Foundation. When that fund was created, the goal was to raise enough money each year that the fund would eventually grow to a large enough size to make it fairly self sustaining. However since its inception this Scholarship fund has barely been able to maintain a minimum balance of $10,000 and has often fallen below that minimum. The fund was also established prior to RB Sunrise establishing a 501(3)c foundation at the San Diego Foundation. The board decided that our club doesn't currently hasn't raised enough funds to be able to maintain both of these entities. As a result the Scholarship fund will be closed and the funds deposited into our clubs general fund. The revenue from this transfer will still be earmarked for scholarships in the budget, but now the club will no longer have the $10,000 minimum requrement to worry about. At some future time, the Scholarship Fund could be reestablished if newer fundraising efforts provide sufficient funds to make this possible.
President elect Karen spoke about the motto for the next year. I will not reveal this because she will do that at her first meeting on July 8. ( Our club will be Dark on July 1.)
Governor's Dinner on Tuesday Evening
On Tuesday, June 24, DG Carl will preside at his last official function of his year as District Governor. Many of us from RB Sunrise will be there to support him and also help with the meeting. It promises to be a fun evening. Because of the DNA of our club, you can be sure that the meeting will have some hilarious moments. Carl has done a great job and we need to be proud that he represented us so well this year.
Fourth of July
As is the case every year, our new club president's first official duty is to be seen in the Fourth of July Parade in Rancho Bernardo. This year, President Karen will take the convertible ride around the business center of RB. She has already gotten special instructions from Nasrin about how to wave correctly. Come ba and be part of the fun of being on the sidewalk to cheer as our president goes by!

To learn about the incoming president of Rotary International, you need to check out the latest issue of the Rotarian magazine. Incoming RI President Gary C. K Huang is from Taipei, Taiwan. I had the opportunity to hear him speak in Sydney. In his address to the closing session, he outlined how every Rotarian's sincerity about service above self is the light to Light Up Rotary. He ended his remarks with this famous poem - The Power of One
