As website administrator, I have added custom information fields at the bottom of the main member profile page. Please supply this information. It is information that will help us help you since we care about each other.
Background
Recently our club experienced the loss of long time member Martin Sheps. Because Martin was regular in his attendance, club members who knew Martin became concerned about him when he missed serveral meetings. A visit to his residence revealed that he was not there. It was then that we realized that our club records lacked any emergency contact information so that we could contact his family. Eventually we learned that he had passed away.
It would have been very helpful to have emergency contact information in our club roster contact main page. Our club has become for many of us an extended family because we lack any family here in San Diego.
There are multiple scenarios in which emergency contact information would be needed. The include such things as medical emergencies (i.e stroke or heart attack that might occur at a Rotary meeting, project or event.) After the appropriate medical ressponse, necessary contact with family or others would be necessary. Since the member might not be able to supply such information, our club roster would be the source for this information.
Please update your profile page on the club website.
Thank you for your cooperation in providing this important emergency information.
Executive Secretary RB Sunrise Rotary Club (San Diego)
The August 2018 RB Sunrise Rotary Club Board of Directors meeting will be held on Thursday, Aug 30 at 4:30 pm at the Country Club of Rancho Bernardo. Red badge members are encouraged to attend in order to earn points for becoming a blue badge member.
Board meetings are always open to all members, but as a courtesy those members who may elect to attend a board meeting should email President Mike Moffat so that we can make the proper arrangements with CCRB.
DIstrict Council, August 21
RB Sunrise Rotary Club was well represented at the District Council at the Hotel Karlan. RB Sunrise Rotary was recognized for having the greatest number of members present and also having the greatest percentage of members attending the meeting.
The program was about San Diego 2-1-1. This is a phone number that people who are in crisis can call to locate over 6000 services that are available here is San Diego. San Diego 2-1-1 doesn't just hand out phone numbers, they actively follow those individuals who contact them so that they can manage their progress. The do this with the person's permission. The length of time their operators spend on the phone is upwards of 25-30 minutes.
As the result of the data that is collected by 2-1-1, they have been able to partner with the City of San Diego and the Counties of San Diego and Imperial to get a better idea about the scope of such problems as homelessness, food crises, drug rehabilitation and suicide.
This resource operates 24/7 from a location near Montgomery Field in Kearny Mesa. Their database of information is mainatained so that they can give up to the minute information about the availability of services because agencies inform them when they can't provide services. 2-1-1 also maintains direct contact with those who are providing response to such things as wildfires so that they can be a source of up to the minute information about the scope of such emergencies. This local 2-1-1 is a model for this same program throughout the country because it is so comprehensive.
2-1-1 welcomes visitors to their office and response center. In addition to hearing more about this, our club needs to visit them so that we can better understand all that they do. Click on the logo for more information. This organization is another reason that makes San Diego a great place to live. Like Rotary, they are changing lives of everyone who uses their services.
Jesse Garza Earns Blue Badge
At the meeting on Aug 21, Jesse Garza was recognized for earning blue badge status. Jesse has proved already that he wants to be active in our club. He is the leader of one of our fundraising teams. Congratulations to Jesse for becoming a full member of RB Sunrise Rotary. In the photo to the left, Jesse is holding his new blue badge while being congratulated by Mary Stanton, our membership co-chair.
