This year, for the first time since Rotarians at work began in 2006, our club will not be doing a hands on project on the last Saturday in April. Rotarians at work was the project spearheaded by a past District 5340  District Governor, the late Bob Watson.  His idea was that clubs in our district and beyond would on the same day everywhere do community projects that could not only benefit their own community, but also make Rotary and Rotarians more visible to the general public.  That first year, our district partnered with clubs in District 4100 (northern Baja California) 

 

Past RB Sunrise President Jim Roth was instrumental in taking this concept to many district here in the western United States that ended up adopting this idea.  The idea was eventually adopted by Rotary International.  In 2016, 43 districts with over 100,000 Rotarians participated around the world. 

Despite our club not having a project on the exact date for Rotarians at Work, we can hardly be faulted in that we did have the Project Mercy house build project in Mexico on April 15, two weeks prior to the Rotarians at Work.  April has been a busy month for our club with many Rotary events occurring - RB Sunrise Ladies Night Out, the Project Mercy House Build , the National Weather Service Tour and the Fireside Chat.  We have a vibrant club and that actually makes it harder to schedule a project. 

 

Currently the club is in the process of setting up a hands on project to aid the  Toby Wells Blue Apple Ranch in Ramona with a spruce up day like what we have done in the past at PoVa. This will be sometime before the end of the Rotary year on June 3o.

 

 

 

 

Tony Nogales, Chuck Andrean and Jeb Bakke learned about the club and Rotary.  Tony joined RB Sunrise after participating in multiple house build projects in Mexico.  Jeb Bakke is a returning club member who, after taking time to be active in his children's school years, decided that he wanted to come back because of what he wanted to do in our club.  Chuck Andrean joined our club  because he has been a member of 3 other Rotary clubs over the years and like our club. 

 

Chuck Andrean, during the discussion, informed us that his wife, Yong Hee, a Dept. of Defense auditor who oversees 33 employees, has been selected to attend the Army War College in Carlisle, PA.  (Chuck is himself a graduate of the Army War College.)  Chuck and Yong Hee  are keeping their home here in RB and plan to return in about 2 years.  It is quite an honor for Yong Hee to be selected for the Army War college as the only woman selected in the group that will be going to Carlisle, PA.  Other civilians were selected to attend the War Colleges of the other military branches on the Dept. of Defense.  We will miss Chuck but congratulate Yong Hee on her new assignment.
