The assignment for the Who Am I includes providing the positive thought at the beginning of the meeting and introducing guests and visiting Rotarians during the meeting.
Cheering for Rotary assignment includes selling opportunity drawing tickets.
Using their talents, expertise, and leadership, Rotary members worldwide are asked to be gifts to the world this upcoming 2015-16 Rotary year.
Rotary International President-elect K.R. "Ravi" Ravindran called Sunday's address to incoming district governors the "most significant moment of my life."
"All of you have been given so many gifts. And you have now been given this great gift: one year to take all your talents, all your gifts, everything that you are and can become -- and Be a Gift to the World," said Ravindran, revealing his presidential theme at the annual five-day training meeting in San Diego, California, USA.
At the board of director's meeting on January 15, 2015 at President Karen Mortimer's home, the budget for this year was approved. Because of the success of the Rancho BEERnardo Festival fundraising event, we are able to go forward with funding for the many requests that we have received from various groups. This year's budget is a bridge to the future because the board also envisions a more formal process for funding grants in the future. The intention for a formal funding grant process is to revert to a process that apparently existed in the past. Just as Rotary International Foundation is now limiting grant projects to those that are larger and more sustainable. our club is exploring ways to make the funding grants we approve in the future have a greater impact within our community. There will be more information about this as the procedures for our grant applications are developed in the next several months.
Our Rancho BEERnardo Festival event is on track for Saturday, October 10, 2015, but because of the shortness of the daylight hours, the time has been moved up to a 2 pm start time. The festival will now run from 2 pm to 4 pm. As before, there will be a hands on project in advance of the event to work at the Sikes Adobe Farmstead venue to general cleanup and preparation.
Our club has a special treat in store this coming Wednesday. Those who signed up to attend the International Hospitality event at Peter Meisen's GENI office in San Diego will get to meet District Governor Elects from a diverse selection of locations from around the world. Because of the video capabilities of Peter's office, we will be able learn about the districts represented by our guests.
On Saturday evening January 17, 2015, 22 club members accompanied by 14 guests and spouses converged at the home of Paul and Leann Sullivan for our delayed holiday party. The party was a potluck. That meant that there was a lot of very good things to eat. There was an abundance of appetizers, some entrees and quite a few desserts. Among the desserts were 2 large chocolate cakes, enough for chocolate overload for a party twice the size.
Beside the drinks brought by members, Highland Valley Vineyards owner Ray Schnorr, a board member with Paul Sullivan at the YMCA of San Diego County, brought wine for tasting and purchase.

As is always the case, there was a lot of good fun during the open auction of items brought for the fundraising auction. Wineglasses, wine, an electric wine bottle opener, a heavy chest with lemons and vodka, a wooden serving tray were among the items auctioned. Mr. Schnorr added a wine tasting for 4 persons at his vineyard/winery. And of course, the mystery item provided by Fred Nasseri was the last item sold. A box containing a fresh water pearl necklace with Swarovsky crystals on the pearls, a man's and worman's watch and a $100 gift certificate for Unicorn Jewelry was sold to Paul and Leann Sullivan for $475. The total amount raised in the auction was $1395.
