The member assigned to Who Am I is also responsible for providing the positive thought at the beginning of the meeting and introducing visiting Rotarians and guests.
The member assigned to Rotary Minute is the assigned Greeter for that day and also is tasked with selling opportunity drawing tickets.
On Tuesday, April 19, 2016, Steve Sayler and his wife Karen hosted a Fireside Chat at 6:00 pm for eight new members, along with their spouses/significant others. Many current members were also there to meet the new members and spend some time getting to know them. It was a beautiful sunny evening with wonderful food, great wine and lots of camaraderie. The warm weather made for a pleasant evening on the Sayler patio.
Allison Farrin, our current President, welcomed the new members by briefly speaking about Rotary’s organizational structure and future projects that need members to volunteer for and participate in. Alison related the fact that every year for the last several years our new fundraising event Rancho BEERnarod has grown and now has probably outgrown the Sikes Adobe site. She spoke about RB Sunrise’s goal of raising at least $75,000 for the Annual Fund during the next fiscal year between July 1, 2016 and June 30, 2017.
Our President-elect, Craig Brown, then spoke about what he expects to accomplish with new vision to raise money for Rotary projects and involvement from members. Other officers there spoke about their respective roles and how they relate to the ongoing business of RB Sunrise. Every new member was given a package from Rotary International with information pertaining to The Rotary Foundation and other Rotary fund organizations, and how every member may donate to help ongoing projects domestically as well as internationally.

On Sunday, April 24, 2016, Jean and John Russo, along with their four dogs, hosted a Get Together Potluck for members and their spouses/significant others at their beautiful home in Escondido. The hosts provided wine and beverages, tri-tip steak, which was cooked perfectly to everyone’s taste, and a wonderful barbequed potato salad. Other food contributions included assorted appetizers, a spicy Mexican three-bean salad and scrumptious apple walnut salad.
To round out the evening, a delicious chocolate cake and yummy macadamia nut pie were served. Background music added to the cozy ambiance, with lots of conversation, storytelling, and laughter. The evening ended with a champagne toast to celebrate the 44th anniversary of Nasriin Barbee's first meeting with Ralph, who is now her husband.
There is something new in our ClubRunner Admin Page. When you logon to our ClubRunner website and then access the Admin Page by clicking on Member Access on the top right side of the home page, there is something new in the task bar. The fifth item, Contacts (Beta), is new. This link brings up a page with some choices in the task bar. One of those choices is Manage Contacts.
When you click on this Manage Contact link, it brings pages that list active and former members. It also lists bulletin subscribers and anyone whose information can be added, including visitors, and speakers who might be prospective members.
On the Manage Contacts page, you also have the option to export contacts to your contact manager. This is the way to keep your contact list current.
In the future, the Contacts link will replace the Friends of the Club link in the Membership Manager section of the Admin page.
Rotary International Council on Legislation met recently and made some significant changes. The Council is an essential element of Rotary’s governance. Every three years, members from around the world gather in Chicago to consider proposed changes to the policies that govern the organization and its member clubs. Measures that are adopted take effect 1 July.
Here is a summary of the legislative changes that will take effect July 1, 2016.
• The first measure allows clubs to decide to vary their meeting times, whether to meet online or in person, and when to cancel a meeting, as long as they meet at least twice a month.
• The second allows clubs flexibility in choosing their membership rules and requirements. The council also approved removing six membership criteria from the RI Constitution and replacing them with a simple requirement that a member be a person of good character who has a good reputation in their business or community and is willing to serve the community.
• The council adopted a $4 dues increase in order to maintain its reserve funds and also improve My Rotary and make other changes and improve resources to clubs and districts. The yearly per capita dues that clubs pay to RI will be $60 in 2017-18, $64 in 2018-19, and $68 in 2019-20.
• To encourage Rotaract members to become Rotary club members, Rotaractors will now be allowed to become a Rotarian while still remaining a member of a Rotaract club.
• The distinction between e-clubs and traditional clubs will be eliminated.
• The reference to admission fees in the Rotary bylaws will be removed.
