Program for April 5, 2016
President Alison Farrin will conduct a Club Assembly. Beside learning about what is happening in our club, you will have an opportunity to have input concerning upcoming events.
Membership Notes
One of the benefits of our ClubRunner website is the management capabilities. At any time, club officers can get a "snapshot" of the overall health of our club. The most recent information on the club dashboard is reflected in the following.
For RB Sunrise Rotary Club, our club dashboard reveals that we have 32 percent female members and our age distribution is under 35 - 10 percent, age 35-49 - 10 percent, Age 50 -64 - 48 percent, age 65-79 - 26 percent, and age 80+ - 5 percent. Years of service info is 9 percent less than 1 year, 24 percent 1-5 years, 26 percent - 5-10 years, 17 percent - 10 - 20 years and 24 percent have been members for over 20 years. This information was distilled from the club dashboard in our Clubrunner database. Since it is an axiom in management that you can’t assess anything you can’t measure, ClubRunner’s dashboard makes this management information easily available. In our club we can see that well over a 20 percent of our club is under 50 years of age. That is an area we know we need to improve and has been improving in the last 5 years. 2/3 of our club has been members for over 5 years, so we know we are retaining members. We also can see in the dashboard that we have grown by 8 members so far this year.
An additional note is Foundation Chair, Jeanne MacLaren is doing great job. Recentlly we have been awarding New Paul Harris Fellowships and there have been quite a few multiple Paul Harris Fellowship awards presented.
Upcoming Speakers
The club website has been updated to include all of the speakers that are currently booked. We will have some interesting programs in the future. Click on the link to go to our club website to learn more.
Rotarians At Work
Don't plan anything for Saturday, April 30, 2016. This is the date for our Rotarians at Work projects. This year our club will be doing 2 projects. The first is a visit to the Poway Valley Therapeutic Riding Center to construct a shade structure and do some cleanup of the grounds. The second project will be a visit to Ronald McDonald House located behind Rady Childrens Hospital. At Ronald McDonald House, we will be doing maintenance activities and also helping to prepare the lunches for the current guests. This is a great opportunity to do a hands on project with other members in our club. At both places, the staff is looking forward to our visit because our past visits demonstrated that when we are there we do a lot of work and yet we have fun doing it.
Fireside Chat for New Members
Steve Sayler has generously provided his home for the next Fireside Chat. It will be held on the evening of April 20. This is an opportunity for new members to meet other members of our club and learn what each of the officers of the club do in their leadership roles. This informal social event is a great way to get to know new members. Look for the signup sheet at our meetings.
District Conference 2016
This year's district conference is going to be unusual because for the first time our district is combining with district 5240 to hold a joint conference in Newport Beach. When you attend a district conference, you get to really learn and experience the wide variety of projects and achievements of our district and Rotary International. In our clubs, Rotarians do a lot of great projects. Beyond the club level, Rotary Districts and Rotary International work together to accomplish projects that truly change lives. The success of the polio eradication effort is just one example. At a district conference, we learn what has happened and what new ideas there are for new projects. If you haven't ever been to a Rotary International Convention or a Distrct Conference , this is an opportunity to go to a big meeting and not have to get on an airplane.
This joint District Conference is going to be held on the weekend of May 13-15, 2016. A Saturday only registration package is available that would allow you to drive to Newport Beach for the Saturday sessions and not have to book a reservation at the hotel.
