Once again, our district is doing something different. Last fall we had wine tasting event. In keeping with the fact that San Diego is also become well known for its craft breweries, the district is sponsoring this beer tasting The number of craft breweries has grown exponentially in San Diego county. One of the most successful breweries is Stone Brewery. Stone Brewery began in San Marcos in 1996 and then moved to their present headquarters in Escondido in 2005. In the past year they have begun construction of breweries in Berlin, Germany and Richmond, Virginia.
Come and enjoy an opportunity to taste the products of our regions most successful brewery at one of their Bistro locations outside Escondido. As members of RB Sunrise Rotary Club, you have an additional incentive to attend this dinner meeting. As Jeanne MacLaren and Kim Muslusky, co-chairs of this event, have indicated in an email you received during the last week, if you attend this dinner, RB Sunrise will cover one half of the cost of the member's registration which is $55.00. That means you get to go to a beer tasting event, get a free tour of the brewery and then a great meal for only $27.50!
Last Tuesday, after the regular RB Sunrise club meeting, PDG Carl made a “house call” on past RB Sunrise president Charlie Dulaney. “Charlie inspires me along with many others because of his boundless spirit, enthusiasm, positive demeanor and keen sense of humor. He has been our club president, president of the Poway-Scripps Rotary Club, Assistant Governor, president of District Council among many other Rotary positions”, remarked Carl after his visit.
During his visit, Carl surprised Charlie with a Governor’s Torchbearer Award certificate. The certificate reads: “The Governor’s Torchbearer Award is presented in recognition of your demonstrated passion to “light the path of Rotary” through your dedication to the Object of Rotary and your enthusiasm to use the power of Rotary to make a difference in the lives of others. A torchbearer is one who imparts knowledge, truth and inspiration to others. Your passion for Rotary is your torch which, when combined with the torches of all Rotary’s torchbearers, creates and immense glow that brightens the lives of individuals and families in your community and around the world. Congratulations on being a Governor’s Torchbearer!”
Later, Carl also presented Charlie with lapel pin of the 2016-17 Rotary International Theme (“Rotary ServingHumanity”) and a theme banner personally signed by Rotary International president-elect John Germ. “I think Charlie was taken aback by all this, but it is me who came away inspired and honored to share some time with King Charles” commented Carl
