December Holiday Activities
Saturday Dec 5, 2015 Holiday Gift Fair at Valley Elementary School on Bowron Road in Poway.
This annual event was began in December 2010 when Al Watson was president of our club. It was his idea to have an event for children. Sue Herndon knew about the gift fair sponsored by the PTA at Valley Elementary School. Our club contacted the PTA and we were able to partner with them for this event. Our club has supplied gifts and breakfast items at this event every year. Since the beginning, this has been an international event because each year several members of our sister club in Tijuana (Club Rotario Tijuana Millenio Minarete) has come to participate. Because so many of the children that participate in this event are Hispanic, our sister club's help is greatly appreciated.
This is always a fun event and is a great kickoff event for the holiday season. Sign up for at least one of the time slots this Saturday morning. One of the traditions of this event is having lunch at the Hamburger Factory at Old Poway Park after the fair with our friends from Tijuana.
Sunday, Dec 6, 2015 RB Sunrise Holiday Party at Alison Farrin's Home in Ramona
Over the years this event has evolved into a potluck dinner so that that the cost of the event could be minimized. The evening begins with a silent auction of the "white elephant" gifts that are unwrapped. Bidding goes on during the social time before the mealtime. After the meal and dessert, the fun begins when the open auction begins. Auctioneer Mike Moffat with the help of an elf (traditionally either Jim Roth or Carl Kruse) takes each of the gift items and auctions them. The bidding is spirited and the fun of the event is when a bidder purchases an item for someone else to have to display or wear. This fun fundraiser has usually resulted in over $1300 begin raised. (Another tradition is that the only gift that is allowed to be wrapped is the one provided by Fred Nasseri. His gift is usually worth several hundred dollars and is the mystery item each year.)
Be sure to sign up and attend this event. It is always a great event and a great way to get to know the other members in our club.
Tuesday, December 8, 2015 Toys for Tots
Sue Herndon will have several Marines as guests to formally receive the toys provided by our club. This event has also become an RB Sunrise Rotary Club tradition.
Year End Administrative Member Responsibilities
Is the information on our club roster on our website correct? Has there been any changes during 2015. One of the advantages of our club website is the fact that you can verify and correct any errors in your contact and profile information. To do so, log on to the website and then go to the Member Area. Under the My ClubRunner section at the top of the left side of the Admin page, the first link is Edit My Profile. Click on that link to go to your profile. To Edit information in any section, click on the Edit button. Make the changes or corrections and then be sure to scroll to the bottom of the page to click on the Save button before you exit the page. Be sure to look at all of the tabs at the top of your profile page. The other pages that are accessed with these tabs include information you can edit. For example, under the Rotary tab you can enter the name of the person who was your sponsor when you joined the club. You also can see and update any member designations that may be incorrect or not up to date.
Under the Biography tab, you can write a brief bio in each of the places. This helps new members to get to know you. In each section, what is available is explained. Under the Settings tab is where you can change your password and login name.
Because Rotary International no longer sends paper copies of our club roster, but instead relies on the accuracy of the information that is on our club roster on ClubRunner, it is essential that your ClubRunner member profile information is accurate. The invoice that the club receives toward the end of January reflects the membership information the RI gets from our club database. We no longer can make corrections as we could do in the past.
Maintaining your profile information is the one task of membership that is your responsibility. No one else knows you like you do. Your access allows you to help make our database error free. Thank you for your help.
