Program for Tuesday, Aug 1, 2017
The program for Tuesday is a club assembly for the purpose of rolling out the marketing/fundraising materials and teams for our 2017 Rancho BEERnardo Festival event on Saturday, October 28, which is now less that 3 months away! This meeting needs to have every member in attendance so all of us will learn how we can do our part to make this years fundraising event the best ever. Gordy Erickson, Bill Chaffin, and Tracey van Putten and the others on the steering committee have been working hard to get all the detail in place. The envelope stuffing we did last week was just the first step. There are much more fundraising efforts planned. Every member has a role to plan. Come to the meeting on Tuesday, Aug 1 to learn how you fit into the picture for our signature event in Rancho Bernardo.

The Rotary flags in front of Rotary International World Headquarters in Evanston, Illinois, USA, and Rotary offices around the world fly at half-staff this week as friends and colleagues mourn President-elect Sam F. Owori, who died on 13 July from complications after surgery.
With an engaging smile and a calming voice, Sam put everyone he talked to at ease, says Hilda Tadria , a member of the Rotary Club of Gaba, Uganda, and a close friend of Sam and his wife, Norah.
Each year Rotarians invest time and treasure trying to improve the lives of those with less.
Which explains our club's support for Thousand Smiles, a 501 (c) (3) foundation providing free dental and various associated medical procedures to babies, children, young adults and geriatric residents in Baja, CA.
In addition to the money we happily donate, our own Kim Muslusky (the foundation's secretary) regularly leads teams of volunteers across the border to put long-lasting smiles on the faces of everyone they meet.
Since the founding of Thousand Smiles in 1985, the organization has been responsible for tens of thousands of smiles, better and more successful lives, and overall good health for two generations of residents of Baja and communities from many miles around.
True, we may never see these people again, but that's not what's important. What IS important is knowing we did the right thing, and for the right reasons. After all, a smile is the critical factor to finding self-respect, a job, a life-partner, and overall success.

District Governor Scott Carr visited RB Sunrise Rotary
District 5340 2017 - 2018 Governor Scott Carr visited our club on Tuesday, July 25, 2017, In his remarks, he related to us that his life was changed by Rotary before he was even a member. It was at his Rotaract Club that he met his wife, for example. His remarks were well received because our club is already doing what we need to do to be a dynamic, growing club.
In the board meeting after adjournment of our regular meeting, Scott listened to our plans for our 2017 Rancho BEERnardo Festival. Because of his background in marketing, he was able to make some suggestions to add to the already extensive marketing effort that Susan Marsh and Jim Stewart are doing. The meeting turned into a brainstorming session about some ideas about how to showcase Rotary RB Sunrise Rotary. The goal is to use our event as a tool to recruit new club members, whether ty be from our sponsors or from the local people who attend our festival.
