L to R: Josh Hampshire,
Carly Hampshire
On February 19, 2014 RB Sunrise Rotary held the club level 4 Way Speech contest.  This speech contest is held every year in Rotary District 5340 to promote public speaking for high school students. The winner of the club level contest goes on to compete at the subregional contest in March at a different location. Former president, Rex Teets has for many years been the moderator for the club and subregional contest.

This year's contest had only 2 contestants.  Both contestants were from Scripps Ranch High School.  Interestingly, the were brother and sister.  The winner was Carly Hampshire, a senior.  She defeated her brother, Josh, who is a freshman.  As is often the case, both did a fine job with their speeches.

Story update:  Carly placed second at a subregional competition and will move up to compete at a regional contest to be held at the San Diego Downtown Rotary club meeting on April 2 at 7:00 am.  The meeting is at the University Club (34th floor of Symphony towers, 750 B Street)
