RB Sunrise Rotary presented the first annual Kendra Jeffcoat Memorial Scholar Scholarship to recent RBHS graduate Lauren Horne.  The late Kendra Jeffcoat was a past president of Rancho Bernardo Sunrise Rotary Club and at her passing in late February 2017 was a professor in the education department at SDSU.

Scholarship Committee Chair Alison Farrin reflected, “Lauren embodies the exact student for whom this scholarship was meant. She's attending a local community college, keeping her educational standards high and her costs low. “ That was one thing Kendra was passionate about; community college was a huge benefit for students, without ending up with crushing debt. Lauren loves animals and wants to use her Neuroscience major as a stepping stone to a Veterinary Doctoral degree from UC Davis, after finishing her BA at UCSD.

Lauren visted RB Sunrise Rotary for breakfast Tuesday morning.  We all had an opportunity to discover what an engaging, excited, ambitious and passionate woman Lauren is. Jay Jeffcoat, Kendra’s spouse, shared some of Kendra’s love of animals with all of us and ended by telling Lauren that she was a shining example of all the things Kendra loved about her students. Lauren is attending Palomar college, having already jumped in to begin college life with the campus’ summer session.

Lauren said, “I like to dream big. Thank you so much for taking care of the financial requirements to achieve my first step.”
